Dear Dr. Masie,
I read and enjoy your Learning TRENDS often. Now I’m asking you to read my contribution, below.
Inherent in the concept of Katrina Villages is an Education Bank, based on distance learning technologies and coordinated by Village residents and local volunteers. Given the likely nature of the refugees who would choose to occupy these temporary villages, their stay there could provide better educational opportunity than they have ever had before. The storm has transformed their lives. Your readers could ensure that there is a positive element in that transformation.
I can’t do this alone. Please evaluate my ideas for yourself. If you believe they have any merit – even if they are only useful to stimulate thought but should not be put into action, pass them on and/or publish them.
I won’t get anything out of this other than the satisfaction of knowing others are benefiting from the thinking I have been privileged to experience in my life. I’m trying to “pass it forward.”
Thank you, Liza Loop

Subject: Idea to help Hurricane Katrina refugees
Dear Friends and Acquaintances of Liza Loop,
Many of us are feeling helpless to make a difference as we begin to see the enormity of the Katrina disaster. I’d like to find a way to relieve some of the suffering of my southern neighbors. I’m not convinced that throwing some old clothes in a bag and taking them down to the local Red Cross will do the trick. I’m not confident that our current governmental agencies will be able to come up with a remedy. Soooooo...continue with standard letter...
